2024 ViaYOUTH Summit - Everyone Has A Story

We believe that everyone has a story worth telling. It's why we're passionate about bringing youth leaders together to inspire positive change, share stories, and connect with like-minded peers at the annual ViaYOUTH Summit.

Session 1: Cultivating Authentic Relationships with Corey Robinson

This workshop concentrated on establishing safe spaces in our communities to enable everyone to express their true selves. Safe spaces are crucial as they foster an environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their perspectives, ideas, and opinions without fear of being criticized.

Session 2: Diversity & Inclusion - Fostering a Harmonious Society

This session highlighted the significance of embracing diversity and inclusion in todays world. We believe that everyone's story is unique, and it's crucial to acknowledge and appreciate these narratives.

Session 3: The Power of Personal Narratives - Connecting Communities with DeRico Symonds

Our stories are the building blocks of our communities. The experiences we live through have the power to connect us all. Join us in this workshop to learn how your personal narratives can make a difference in your community.

Keynote Speaker:
Lindsay Ruck - Author

Lindsay Ruck is a mother, author and creator from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. She studied journalism at Carleton University’s School of Journalism in Ottawa before returning to her home province to continue her writing career. Her first book, Winds of Change: The Life and Legacy of Calvin W. Ruck details the life of her grandfather, the late Senator Calvin Ruck. Winds of Change was nominated for an Atlantic Book Award in 2015. Her follow-up work of non-fiction was a biography of former Nova Scotian premier and doctor, John Savage. Lindsay’s first book for younger readers, Amazing Black Atlantic Canadians, was nominated for a Hackmatack Book Award. Her debut children’s picture book, My Favourite Colour, shares the importance of seeing and celebrating every colour under the sun.

Special Excursion: Crossfit Basinview

Our unique excursion featured a visit with Motivate Canada staff member Corey Robinson at his gym, Crossfit Basinview. Here, youth explored fundamental Crossfit techniques and discovered the strength of the Crossfit community. Additionally, Jarrett Whitefish provided our group with an introductory lesson in the art of powwow dancing.

The Story of Powwow - Jarrett Whitefish

We had the pleasure of having Jarrett Whitefish, GEN7 Collaborative lead, join us for an informative session on the history of powwow in Canada. In the first part of the session, Jarrett shared key highlights and insights about powwow culture, followed by a practical lesson on the fundamentals of physical movement in the gym.
